Social media can feel like a beast when you’re just getting started, algorithms, trends, platforms, content, captions… it’s a lot. But if you’re running a business in 2025, having some kind of social media presence is almost non-negotiable.
Let’s break it down together (no fluff, no jargon).
Why bother with social media in the first place?
It’s where people are hanging out. Your people. Whether you're selling a product, a service, or an idea, social media helps you build brand awareness, connect with your audience, and turn followers into paying customers. Done right, it can become one of your biggest business tools, for visibility, credibility, and community.
Misconception: You need to be everywhere
Nope. You do not need to be on every platform. This is a one-way ticket to burnout. Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, they all have their place, but trying to keep up with all of them at once (especially as a solopreneur or a mompreneur like me) is a fast track to overwhelm.
Instead, pick one or two platforms that make sense for you, your audience, and the type of content you enjoy creating. Quality > quantity, always.
Start here: What are your business goals?
Before you even open Canva or draft a caption, take a step back and get super clear on your business goals.
Do you want more sales?
Are you trying to grow an email list?
Do you want to be known as a go-to expert in your space?
Once you’re clear on what you’re trying to achieve, you can use social media intentionally to support those goals (rather than posting just for the sake of it).
Social media manager or DIY?
This is a big one. The short answer? It depends.
If you’re just starting out and not bringing in consistent income yet, you probably don’t need a social media manager right now. Learn the basics, build some momentum, and keep it simple.
But if your business is growing, you’re strapped for time, and you canafford to outsource then hiring a social media manager could be one of the best investments you make. It frees you up to focus on the other needle-moving parts of your business.
Which platform is right for you?
A quick rundown:
Instagram – Great for visuals, stories, reels, and building community. Ideal for lifestyle brands, creatives, and service-based businesses.
TikTok – High reach potential, more casual and trend-driven. Amazing for personal brands and products with a younger audience.
LinkedIn – Best for B2B, thought leadership, and networking. If you're targeting professionals or offering services, don't sleep on it.
Pinterest – Perfect for evergreen content, products, and blog traffic. Especially strong for niches like home, wellness, fashion, and weddings.
YouTube – For long-form video content and deep dives. A solid long-game platform if video is your thing.
Pick what feels doable, aligned, and where your audience actually hangs out.
I want to hear from you!
